CALATHEA
Calathea, with its captivating foliage and vibrant patterns, is a stunning addition to your indoor greenery. Native to the tropical regions, these plants thrive in a warm and humid environment. Here’s your comprehensive care guide to ensure your Calathea flourishes in your home.
- Light: Calatheas prefer indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. They are well-suited for locations with filtered or dappled light.
- Temperature: Maintain a temperature range between 18°C and 24°C. These plants are sensitive to drafts and temperature fluctuations, so avoid placing them near doors or windows that may expose them to chilly air.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of the soil feels dry to the touch. Use room temperature water to avoid shocking the plant.
- Humidity: Calatheas thrive in high humidity. Increase humidity by misting the leaves regularly, placing a tray of water nearby, or using a humidifier.
- Fertilizer: Feed your Calathea with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
- Pruning: Trim any yellow or damaged leaves to promote new growth and maintain the plant’s appearance.
- Repotting: Repot your Calathea every 1-2 years or when it outgrows its current container. Use fresh well-draining potting mix to prevent waterlogging.
