ANTHURIUM

Anthurium, also known as the flamingo flower, is an exotic-looking indoor plant with flowers that come in a range of colours and large, glossy leaves. Anthurium flowers are actually ‘spathes’ – brightly coloured leaves that attract insects in the wild. The blooms appear intermittently throughout the year and last for between six to eight weeks, with a ‘rest period’ of up to three months in between.

Here are some tips for caring for your Anthurium plant:

  1. Light: Anthuriums thrive in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves.
  2. Temperature: Anthuriums prefer warm temperatures between 20°C and 30°C. Keep them away from cold drafts and air conditioning.
  3. Watering: Water your Anthurium plant when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Do not overwater as it can lead to root rot.
  4. Humidity: Anthuriums prefer high humidity levels. You can increase humidity by placing a tray of water near the plant or using a humidifier.
  5. Fertilizer: Feed your Anthurium plant with a balanced fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
  6. Pruning: Remove dead or yellowing leaves to keep your plant healthy.
  7. Repotting: Repot your Anthurium plant every two years in fresh potting soil.
